There is a small but highly technological outdoor gym: six stations – for push-ups and leg lifts, a rowing machine, step bench, step over handlebars, spinning bikes and hand pedals. What makes this gym such a novel attraction is the fact that, as you exercise, your kinetic energy is transformed into enough electricity to charge a smartphone or tablet using special USB sockets; or to be fed into the grid to help illuminate the outside of the Visitors’ Centre. A totem display provides information on the energy produced and consumed. The installation has no architectural barriers and some equipment can also be used by disabled people, including wheelchair users.
